𝓐𝔀𝓪𝓻𝓮𝓷𝓮𝓼𝓼 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓢𝓮𝓷𝓼𝓲𝓽𝓲𝔃𝓪𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓷 𝓢𝓮𝓼𝓼𝓲𝓸𝓷
On 19th February 2024, the members from Lhak-Sam, the Civil Society Organizations Authority visited Gelephu Thromde to conduct an awareness session on HIV. The session was attended by Dasho Thrompon, the Executive Secretary, along with all the staff of Gelephu Thromde.
During the awareness session, participants were given comprehensive information regarding the transmission of HIV through different bodily fluids. Specifically, detailed discussions were held regarding:
* Blood and blood products: Explanation was provided on how HIV can be transmitted through blood transfusions, sharing of needles or other injecting equipment, and contact with open wounds or mucous membranes.
* Semen/sexual fluids: The session addressed the risks associated with unprotected sexual activities, emphasizing the importance of using barrier methods such as condoms to prevent HIV transmission.
* Sperm: Participants were informed about the presence of HIV in sperm and the potential for transmission through unprotected sexual intercourse, including oral, vaginal, and anal sex.
* Mother's milk: The session highlighted the risk of HIV transmission from an HIV-positive mother to her child through breastfeeding, underscoring the importance of accessing proper medical care and interventions to prevent mother-to-child transmission.
* Addressing the stigma and discrimination linked to HIV/AIDS - The session emphasized the mental challenges faced by individuals. By promoting understanding, empathy, and community support, we can collaboratively strive to establish a more inclusive and compassionate environment for those living with HIV/AIDS.
Overall, the session aimed to raise awareness about the various ways HIV can be transmitted through bodily fluids, empowering participants with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their sexual health and well-being.
Moving forward, it is imperative that we continue to educate and raise awareness to empower individuals to make informed choices and to promote acceptance and solidarity in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
